Presented by Anita Dodd and Jerrilynn Eby MacGregor, Stafford County Historical Society. An overview of Stafford cemeteries, including iconography and their importance to local history and culture. Learn about the individuals buried across Stafford County who participated in the Revolutionary War.

Anita Dodd is a retired archaeologist and architectural historian. She served as an archaeologist for Ferry Farm, George Washington’s Boyhood Home, and is the Chairman of the Stafford County Cemetery Committee. Jerrilynn Eby MacGregor is the author of They Called Stafford Home, among other works related to the rich history of Stafford County. A life-long Staffordian, Jerrilynn continues to heavily contribute to historical and genealogical studies of the people and places of this County. She is a secretary of the historical society and a frequent lecturer on various historical topics to numerous regional historical organizations.

Experience an evening of free live jazz with Alex Pendleton’s AI Jazz Band in the beautiful setting of Gari Melchers Home and Studio! Enjoy timeless jazz favorites and fresh, innovative sounds in the Pavilion, with refreshments available for purchase. Presented by Shannon Combs-Bennett. DNA testing in genealogy can be a confusing and complicated process, but, when understood, can provide insight into your genetic origins and help you find new family connections. Moreover, it may showcase which region of the world your ancestors came from and help determine if you are descended from a specific group of people. Shannon will explain what autosomal DNA is, what it means for your research, how to understand your results if you have taken a DNA test, and how to get in touch with family members that may be new to you.

Shannon Combs-Bennett is an author and lecturer on genealogical topics to local and international audiences. She holds a BS in Biology with an emphasis in genetics from Indiana University and a MSc in Genealogical, Heraldic, and Paleographic Studies from the University of Strathclyde, where she is currently in the final stages of acquiring her PhD. Shannon is also a member of the Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.

Join us on Thursday,  August 27 at 7 PM for the grand finale of the Summer Concert Series, featuring “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band. Enjoy an inspiring evening of patriotic favorites, popular selections, and wind band classics in this free outdoor performance.

Concerts are held outdoors on the Museum’s entry plaza, weather permitting. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets. The Museum, Tun Tavern and Museum Store will remain open until 6:45 PM. Outdoor concessions will be available. No alcoholic beverages permitted on Museum grounds.

In the event of inclement weather, schedule or location changes may occur. Select performances may be moved indoors with seating provided.

Join us for a fun, family-friendly evening at George Washington’s Ferry Farm for 18th Century Game Night! Discover how people from all walks of life passed the time with games during the 1700s. Walk through the replica Washington House and its grounds, where we’ll teach you how to play classic games like Shut the Box, Ye Royal Game of the Goose, Whist, Mancala, and outdoor lawn games. It’s a great way to learn about history while having a blast with your family and friends! Come play, learn, and make lasting memories together!

Families are welcome to explore the property and rooms of the Washington House at their own pace.  Visitors may stop along the way to play the historical games or just observe and learn.

Go for Bo Race grew from the idea of having a fun, healthy, and challenging community event to support the children and families of Bo, Sierra Leone, Africa.

The Republic of Sierra Leone is a country in West Africa, and Bo is a town of approximately 500,000 located in the Southern Province. Sierra Leone is known for mining and exporting diamonds, but it struggles to manage exploitation and export in the diamond trade. Most of its citizens live in extreme poverty. These factors have contributed to a situation in which child trafficking and public health are major problems.

That’s where we come in. For more than a decade, Ebenezer Church has been proud to partner with Helping Children Worldwide. Through its programs, the Child Reintegration Centre and Mercy Hospital, they provide critical services to families in Bo, Sierra Leone, Africa. Through our partnership, the people of Ebenezer Church have donated more than $250,000 to help build the hospital’s surgical wing, purchase an ambulance, and care for the children of Bo. This year, the relationship is expanding to support HCW’s education, family stability, maternal health, and childhood nutrition initiatives in Sierra Leone.

In Fredericksburg and Stafford (FXBG), this national mission takes on a deeply local and collaborative form. Situated in a region rich with early American and Civil War history, the FXBG program brings together historic sites, descendant communities, scholars, and the public to explore the full and often underrepresented history of the area. Through immersive programming—including overnight stays in extant slave dwellings, living history demonstrations, campfire conversations, and public events—the program activates historic spaces as places of dialogue, reflection, and connection. Central to this work is the intentional inclusion and elevation of descendant voices, creating opportunities for individuals and families to reconnect with ancestral spaces while helping to shape how these histories are interpreted and shared. At a time when honest historical narratives are increasingly challenged, the FXBG program ensures that the stories of the enslaved—stories of resilience, skill, family, and survival—are brought forward with clarity, integrity, and care, strengthening both community understanding and the broader national conversation about history, memory, and justice.
