Semillitas: Puerto Rican Bomba Kids

Save the dates and join us to experience Puerto Rican bomba songs, dance and music! We will play and sing and have fun as we learn! Each class will include songs, moves and rhythm!
Courses Dates: Sundays Feb 2nd, Mar 2nd, Apr 6th, Jun 1st
(May 4th we will have a special program with visiting artists from Puerto Rico in downtown Fredericksburg)

Join us for Stafford County’s Memorial Day Ceremony at the Armed Services Memorial. This special event will honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. The ceremony will feature a presentation by The Old Guard, the U.S. Army’s official ceremonial unit.

Place a Flag in Semper Fidelis Memorial Park

This Memorial Day weekend (5/23-5/26), we invite you to visit the National Museum of the Marine Corps and honor our fallen heroes by placing an American Flag in Semper Fidelis Memorial Park. Flags are available to pick up inside the Museum through Monday, May 26th.
Your participation is a meaningful way to remember the brave men and women of the Marine Corps who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Complimentary flags can be picked up at the Medal of Honor Theater, Museum Front Desk, and Museum Store provided by the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, while supplies last.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, June 8, 2025, and join us from 10 AM to 1 PM for a spectacular Spring Classic Car Show at the National Museum of the Marine Corps! This event is free and open to the public, so bring your friends and family.

Vehicle Registration:
We invite individuals and car groups to register vehicles that are 25 years or older for the show. Registration is open until midnight on Thursday, June 5, 2025. Only registered vehicles will be permitted in the reserved parking area. Don’t wait—secure your spot using the Vehicle Registration Form before the deadline!

Rappahannock Amateur Radio Club Annual Field Day

The Rappahannock Amateur Radio Club (RVARC) and Stafford County Emergency Communications (EmComm) Team is holding its annual Field Day at the Curtis Memorial Park in Hartwood, VA starting at 2 PM on Saturday June 28th 2025 and ending at 2 PM on Sunday June 29th 2025. Field Day is the opportunity for thousands of amateur radio enthusiasts throughout the world to set up temporary communications stations and make contact with other radio stations. Radio operators spend the weekend practicing community outreach, emergency preparedness, and technical skills. The RVARC will host a “Get On The Air” station where you can get on the air and talk to other amateur radio operators, and you can also learn how to get your own amateur radio license! Run America 250 Virtual Race

Ready to make history one mile at a time? Walk or Run 250 Miles to Celebrate America’s 250th!
Lace up your sneakers and get moving in the free Run America 250 Challenge: a country-wide virtual walk/run event celebrating 250 years of American history!
Between July 4, 2025 and July 5, 2026 we’re challenging you to walk or run 250 miles—anytime, anywhere. Whether you’re hitting the trails, the treadmill, or your neighborhood sidewalk, every mile brings us closer to honoring America’s incredible journey since 1776.
How you hit 250 miles is totally up to you! From grocery runs to evening dog walks, teeing off on the golf course to exploring scenic trails, every step counts.
Registration for the Run America 250 Challenge opens July 4, 2025, and it’s completely free to join! Sign up by April 30, 2026, to start working toward your 250-mile goal and a commemorative medal.
To log your miles, make sure you’ve downloaded the RaceJoy app. This is how we’ll track your progress so that you can get your well-earned medal! Use the app’s GPS feature to log your miles in real-time, or enter your miles manually into the RaceJoy app. This will help make it easy for you to track your progress and help you reach your goal!
Challenge finishers can pick up their medals in person at Widewater State Park, one of Stafford County, Virginia’s most scenic outdoor destinations. Medals will be available for pickup from April 1, 2026 and July 31, 2026.

American Revolution Camp

This camp teaches children what life was like in the 18th century, when colonists were on the cusp of war. Through immersive hands-on activities, children learn about colonial life, maritime practices, and the challenges of war. Campers will play colonial games, explore historic trades, learn from real historical objects, and even design and test their own model ships. It’s a one-of-a-kind opportunity to walk in the footsteps of George Washington at both museum sites while exploring the lives of Revolutionary soldiers, sailors and civilians. This camp alternates locations between Historic Kenmore and George Washington’s Ferry Farm.
For campers ages 8-12.
COST
$175.00 per camper plus processing fees. Advance ticket purchase required, as program space is limited. Sign-up deadline is 4 p.m., Monday, June 30.
Please note our refund policy regarding camp: 2+ weeks before, 90% refund (10% administration fee). 2 weeks before, 50% refund. 1 week before, 0% refund.
After registering, you should receive a confirmation email from SimpleTix. You will receive further communication from the Education Department at the George Washington Foundation in June as we get closer to the camp season. This will include a camper registration and emergency contact form.

Save the dates and join us to learn the fundamentals of Puerto Rican bomba dance! Have fun and sweat while you learn bomba rhythms, basic steps, piquetes, regional characteristics and history. Each class will include new moves and techniques as we learn multiple rhythms. All ages welcome!

Art After Hours returns to the lawn and gardens of Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont. Enjoy live music and visit the studio and galleries of American artist Gari Melchers. Food with be available for purchase from local food trucks as well as beer and wine.

Automobile enthusiasts are invited to a monthly meetup in the museum parking lot the second Saturday of each month April-October, 2025 8 AM – 11 AM. Event is open to all makes, models and years. Coffee will be available for purchase. The Visitor Center will be open during the event. Museum buildings and grounds open for tours at 10 AM.

Plein Air Days

Second Saturday of the Month April – October
(April 12, May 10, June 14, July 12, August 9, September 13, October 11)
Gari Melchers Home and Studio invites artists of all skill levels and mediums to participate in our Plein Air Days. On these unique days, artists are encouraged to create in our gardens, display their work in progress, and meet with other artists and visitors. The grounds will open early at 8:00 AM. The extended site hours for this event (8:00 AM – 10:00 AM) may be cancelled due to inclement weather. Gari Melchers Home and Studio will communicate any changes via social media.
Gari Melchers Home and Studio is open daily 10:00 AM- 5:00 PM. It is free to walk the grounds and gardens. There is an admission charge to tour the historic home and galleries.
The outdoor Plein Air Day event is free and open to the public. There is no fee for participating artists. Professional photographers using the site for client portrait sessions must follow our Photography Guidelines and site use fees.

Free Guided Woodland Hikes
Conducted on the last Sunday of the month by Virginia Master Naturalists, these informative hikes cover a mile of trails in both woodlands and fields and also touch on the historic ruins of Belmont’s past. Meet outside the Visitor Center. Sturdy footwear is advised; no pets, please.
