An infamous tale, Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to nineteenth century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who destroyed his family’s life. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which, he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett’s luck sharply shifts when Todd’s thirst for blood inspires their diabolical plan for revenge. If you are looking for a haunting Halloween event, this musical is sure to satisfy.

In Fredericksburg and Stafford (FXBG), this national mission takes on a deeply local and collaborative form. Situated in a region rich with early American and Civil War history, the FXBG program brings together historic sites, descendant communities, scholars, and the public to explore the full and often underrepresented history of the area. Through immersive programming—including overnight stays in extant slave dwellings, living history demonstrations, campfire conversations, and public events—the program activates historic spaces as places of dialogue, reflection, and connection. Central to this work is the intentional inclusion and elevation of descendant voices, creating opportunities for individuals and families to reconnect with ancestral spaces while helping to shape how these histories are interpreted and shared. At a time when honest historical narratives are increasingly challenged, the FXBG program ensures that the stories of the enslaved—stories of resilience, skill, family, and survival—are brought forward with clarity, integrity, and care, strengthening both community understanding and the broader national conversation about history, memory, and justice.

Join us at George Washington’s Ferry Farm on Friday, September 18, for a day of archaeological exploration designed for homeschoolers and their families. Participants will tour the replica Washington House, excavate artifacts from our teaching pits, and mend broken archaeological finds.

Attendees are welcome to enjoy a picnic lunch on our grounds; walk along the scenic Rappahannock River; explore the Ferry Farm visitor center; and complete a variety of self-guided, take-home activities.

This event is designed for individual homeschool families and small groups. Large homeschool groups or co-ops are encouraged to contact us about scheduling educational programs or field trips separately.

Each session capped at 25 total participants.

A whole afternoon made for fall 🎃 Caramel apples, cider, pumpkins, face painting, pop up mini-session photos, seasonal sweets & more throughout the lawn.

Join our Park Rangers as they discuss the history, ecology, and culture of the Widewater peninsula. Travel in a solo kayak or grab a partner and paddle in a tandem.

This program is limited to 10 participants, so registration is required. Children 6-12 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian in the watercraft, and children 13-17 may paddle solo but must be under the supervision of a parent/guardian. All paddlers are required to wear a properly fitted personal floatation device (PFD). Be sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen, and dress to get wet!

Pre-registration and payment is required. Spots are limited and are first come, first serve. Payment is $25/person including equipment rental and parking. Call the Visitor Center at (540)288-1400 to sign up and pay over the phone, or pay in person prior to the program date.
