Stafford, VA – Tour Stafford partners with the American Junior Golf Association in 2022 to title sponsor the Tour Stafford Junior All-Star. The 54-hole tournament will be held August 15th through 18th at the Gauntlet Golf Club in Stafford County, Virginia. This is the first time Gauntlet Golf Club will host an AJGA Tournament.

Tour Stafford, the tourism development office for Stafford County, Virginia, is a first-time title sponsor of an AJGA event. Stafford County is located halfway between Washington D.C. and Richmond, Virginia. The county links two metropolitan cities and is home to George Washington’s Boyhood Home at Ferry Farm, many tourism attractions, the Marine Core Base Quantico, FBI, and NCIS.

The event will bring 78 male and female junior golfers from around the country to the Stafford Region. The AJGA Junior All-Star series is a collection of events specifically designed for boys and girls ages 12 to 15. The competition provides an opportunity for younger members to develop their skills and build Performance Based Entry status to earn entry into Open tournaments.

“One of our goals as an organization is to make it easy for sports event operators to choose Stafford. We are excited to host the AJGA tournament as the course management and County have invested significantly to make the course more playable while still maintaining its design challenges.” LISA LOGAN, ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND TOURISM AND STAFFORD TOURISM MANAGER

The tournament week begins with the Stafford Economic Development Authority Junior-Am fundraising tournament on Sunday, August 14th. The Junior-Am, similar in format to a Pro-Am, is a fundraising opportunity designed to help local charities in the surrounding area of the event and the AJGA’s Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant.

“The Stafford Economic Development Authority is pleased to host the Stafford-AJGA Junior-Am and we look forward to building this into a significant community and regional event,” said Joel Griffin, Chairman of the Stafford EDA.

Tournament play begins Monday the 15th with the Qualifier tournament. The AJGA Qualifier Series is one of the main ways players get their start with the AJGA. 18-hole AJGA Qualifiers give players an opportunity to “play their way in” to each coinciding tournament and earn PBE status for a future event.

The AJGA is looking for local supporters to help increase the charitable impact associated with the Tour Stafford Junior All-Star. If you are interested, please contact Mitch Garlitz, mgarlitz@ajga.org.

We encourage the Stafford and Fredericksburg community to volunteer for the Tour Stafford Junior All-Star. If you are interested in supporting the AJGA through volunteering please contact Tournament Director, Abby Grzetic at agrzetic@ajga.org.

About Gauntlet Golf ClubThe Gauntlet is a challenging 18-hole, par 72 championship golf course designed by P.B. Dye. The Gauntlet awards precision, where most holes are target-oriented, narrow, and tree-lined.  Of interest will be the play on hole 4 where the tee shot must carry marsh to a very narrow landing area. The green has three tiers and is surrounded by Curtis Lake on the left and back and bunkers on the right.
