  • 9 to 5 - The Musical

Riverside Dinner Theater 9-5 - The Musical

    Riverside Dinner Theater
    9 to 5 - The Musical
    March 7, 2015 - May 3, 2015

Pushed to the boiling point at their workplace, three female co-workers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. In an ingenious conspiracy to gain control of the company, the girls discover that there’s nothing that they can’t do – even in a late-1970s man’s world. Adapted from the hit movie with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, this outrageous, thought-provoking, and lightly romantic mixture of friendship and revenge in the “Rolodex era” provides a glimpse into taking care of business with a not-so-soft feminine touch. We anticipate the return of TV and film star Sally Struthers to enhance a stellar cast belting out songs varying from the hilarious to the downright suggestive. Reserve early!

Riverside Children's Theater Treasure Island - The Musical

    Riverside Children's Theater
    Treasure Island
    March 21, 2015 - May 9, 2015

Told in classic British “panto” style, this hilarious musical version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s famous novel is loaded with sword fights, talking parrots, and tons of audience participation. The play begins with Jim and his mum, running an inn that’s seen better days. When Billy Bones wanders in, their world is turned upside down. Billy promptly dies from shock at the sight of Long John Silver and his crew who’ve come to get a treasure map from Billy. Long John ends up taking them all out to sea to the place where “X marks the spot”—an island where Long John holds them captive until he finds the treasure. At the end, Jim saves the day with the help of Ben Gunn, a deserted man on the island, and everyone (except Long John) gets what their heart most desires. You’ll want to slap on an eye-patch and pull up the Jolly Roger while you groove along to the snappy music and experience all the excitement of this pirate adventure!

Gari Melchers Home and Studio Woodland Hike

Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont will offer free guided nature hikes every last Sunday of the month. Tours will start outside the Museum Shop at 2 pm. Members of the Central Rappahannock Chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalist program will lead tours of the woods and fields at Belmont. The walk will cover about one mile of trails and will touch on the historic ruins that illustrate Belmont’s past. Volunteer guides will also discuss the progress of the woods from pasture land to impenetrable wilderness to the maturing woodlands seen today. Belmont’s trails cover steep and rough terrain and may be muddy at times, so sturdy footwear is recommended. Tours will take place in rain, snow or shine. No reservations are necessary. For more information contact Beate Jensen at 540-654-1839.
