Follow the route taken by an estimated 10,000 slaves that took journeys to freedom through Stafford, Virginia between April - September 1862 -- all prior to the Emancipation Proclamation. There are 10 points of interest in Stafford related to African American history and the Civil War. The driving tour route begins at the Historic Port of Falmouth Park, and ends at Aquia Landing where many of the slaves boarded steamers for Alexandria, Va. and Washington, D.C.
