A. Economic Development is a local government department that assists in the marketing, growth and expansion of new and existing businesses within Stafford County to ensure a strong and viable local economy for Stafford citizens. Specifically, the department assists companies interested in building or establishing a location in Stafford, in an effort to provide new employment opportunities for area residents.

A. Economic Development does keep in contact with commercial developers and realtors in an effort to match companies with appropriate sites and buildings that would meet their business needs. Q. What industries is Stafford interested in attracting?
A. Stafford County is interested in diversifying its commerce in order to maintain a healthy economic base for the community. As the home of Marine Corps Base Quantico, Stafford currently works with many military and federal government contractors. Stafford is currently working to expand research, technology and high-tech manufacturing sectors in the community in order to provide additional job opportunities for our educated workforce. Of course, as George Washington’s Boyhood Home, Stafford is also very interested in growing its tourism and hospitality offerings.

Q: When did the new Stafford Hospital Center open, and how can I contact the center?
A1: The new Stafford Hospital Center opened in February 2009. This 72-acre campus includes 100 inpatient beds, Medical/Surgical (84 beds), Intensive Care (6 critical care beds), Labor and Delivery (10 rooms), Full-service Emergency Dept., Surgical Suite (4 operating rooms), Medical Cardiac Services, Neurological Testing, Respiratory Therapy, Physical Medicine and Rehab, Imaging, Pathology (on-site lab), Pharmacy, Support Departments, and Helistop.

Q: What road and highway projects are planned in Stafford County?
A1: Widening of Route 610 (Garrisonville Rd.) at Joshua Rd. is underway. Motorists should expect changes in traffic patterns. Estimated completion is August 2011.
A2: Widening of US 17 (Warrenton Rd.) is also planned west of Interstate 95.

A. Stafford County Economic Development does not typically orchestrate ribbon cuttings for new businesses, although we can certainly assist in their coordination. Contact the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce for assistance with such events (see the Useful Links webpage for contact info). However, Economic Development does mention new businesses in its quarterly newsletter, and does link to related news articles in its press room in an effort to help promote and support Stafford businesses.

A. As a government agency, Stafford County Economic Development does not maintain nor provide a comprehensive list of Stafford businesses for public use.
