From May 29 - Jun 1, 1861, Union Navy vessels bombarded Confederate batteries in the area of Aquia Landing in Stafford County, Virginia - one of the first naval engagements of the Civil War.
In July 2010, a grant from the National Park Service's "American Battlefield Protection Program" was awarded to Stafford County to survey the Aquia Creek Battlefield. Work on this project will begin in early 2011. Please visit this page often for updates.
